LG has stocked another unit that will definitely be a best-seller. This high-end mid-range smartphone has the right specs for an affordable price, bringing the hype on the K-series. If you are interested in buying the LG K10, here’s an overview of its extensive specs in detail.
Design and Display
While LG may have set its standards on mid-range phones, K10 seemed to overwhelm mobile enthusiasts with its modern design. It looked sleek and smooth with its polycarbonate bodice, buttonless frame, and the rear camera at the back with the volume rocker and power button, looking similarly like one of the company’s premium mobile units – LG G4. Though, it somehow differs from the latter when you flip for the phone’s rear since it shows a refreshing pebble design that may be a new design language for the company’s units, or the K-series lineup, perhaps.
The K10 also shined for its grand scale 5.3-inch IPS in-cell LCD display panel stretched along with its 2.5D Arc Glass design for an edge-free feel. It’s spacious, touch capacitive, glossy, and makes a perfect go-to device for a viewing experience. Though many would doubt its 720-pixel resolution, the device can definitely speak for itself.
Camera
For its price, LG K10 can undoubtedly capture great snaps and shoot quality videos with its 8MP main and 5MP front camera. It is equipped with features like autofocus, burst shot, and gesture shots via hand and voice, offering people options on how to conveniently take snaps, especially when taking a group picture and snapping photos in action. It also has an LED flash for night snaps and is capable of live shots, video screenshots, and quick sharing on social media platforms after taking pictures and videos.
Processor and Memory
The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.27GHz quad-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM. These specs enable smooth multitasking on K10 especially with processing tasks including games and messaging apps. It is also equipped with a 16GB of internal storage, perfect for storing apps and multimedia files. If you need an extra space for your files, you can also trust its Micro SD slot that’s capable of covering 32GB at maximum.
Software and Battery
Running on Android Marshmallow 6.0, LG K10 is extremely a user-friendly smartphone especially for those who are already comfortable with the Android interface. More than that, it also qualifies as a great choice for all-day usage considering its battery capacity of 2220 mAh; which is also removable, by the way.
Connectivity and Performance
LG K10 is equipped with an efficient 4G/LTE network technology deployment. This network deployment also makes the unit a good company for calling, and even cellular data connection.
Aside from this, the device is also equipped with great connectivity protocols such as 802.11 Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.1, and S-GPS, offering users an efficient unit to spend their money on.
What’s New with LG K10 (MS428)
Since its launch in 2016, LG K10 has been the talk of the town, especially among the K-series. Even labeling the unit as the highest-end of all mid-range units of the LG smartphone lineup. Generally, its key features include its overwhelming, full 5.3-inch HD IPS in-cell display with a 2.5D Arc glass panel hovering over the space for an edge-free feel. Undoubtedly, this factor has made the unit a favorite with regard to vivid, viewing experience. It also flaunts its 8MP rear camera that’s equipped with autofocus and gesture shots features such as hand and voice gesture – taking snapping photos into a higher level. Lastly, it is also a smart buy considering its price for its well-designed specs and storage allocation.

It is indeed true that there is a wide array of stylus-equipped smartphones that you can spot on the market nowadays. However, the impressive LG stylus phablet can rather be tempting with its affordable price. It has just the right amount of tools and features that one would need for a stylus phablet – not to mention its impressively widescreen that enables the user to comfortably write or doodle on it. However, what’s truly remarkable about the unit are these specs that are too good to be true for the LG G Stylo:
Design and Display
Having been released in May 2015, the LG G Stylo (also dubbed as the LG G4 Stylus) has a 5.7-inch full screen equipped with IPS display screen and is capable of 1,280 by 720-pixel resolution. Lauded by tech savvies, the phone’s brightness capacity is great for both indoor and outdoor use especially when viewing videos and photos. Furthermore, the IPS LCD touchscreen’s responsiveness is remarkable – no need to double tap to access a particular app or feature.
With regards to its design, the smartphone’s comparatively large for a one-hand use, even measuring up to 6.1 by 3.1 by 0.38 inches overall and weighs for about 5.85 ounces. Though the intentional arched back eventually helps the user for a good grip.
Moreover, it also has the right placement of controls and details. These include the 3.55mm headphone jack and the stylus at the top of the device, the micro-USB charging port at the bottom, the power button at the back along with the volume rocker and the main camera lens, the laser-guided focus and flash just above the control buttons, and a small portion for the audio speaker below. There’s also an allocated slot for prying off the rear panel for accessing the battery and the Micro SD slot.
It’s hard not to notice but the removable rear cover and the control buttons are all made of lightweight matte plastic material encompassed with running dashed lines – making the phone look grander despite the material used.
Camera
Moving on with the camera’s specs, the LG G Stylo is also equipped with the brand’s high-end laser-guided focus aside from the 8MP rear and the 5MP front camera. This allows the lens to capture great photos in a decent shutter speed.
Its video quality is also a sight to see, as the device picks up audio and moving objects effectively. It does not also lag in between shooting, hence, it can be a great buy for those who love shooting videos and capturing great photos outdoors.
Connectivity and Performance
With regards to the call quality, the connection is truly consistent in allowing the users to communicate effectively. In addition, it is also capable of 4G LTE data speed for great internet surfing experience.
Other connectivity protocols include Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 4.1, A-GPS, and the NFC. These connectivity protocols allow the device to share and connect with other devices in a quick and easy manner.
Processor and Battery
Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Quad-Core processor clocked at 1.2GHz coupled with a 2GB of RAM, it is safe to say that the unit is powerful enough to process tasks smoothly – avoiding lags and app crashes to disrupt your routine.
Going further, it also has a 3,000mAh battery capacity that allows the device running for 24 hours.
Software and Memory
The LG G Stylo runs on a 5.1 Lollipop Android version, which makes it acquire the impressive features of the said operating system’s version.
It is also equipped with a 16GB of internal storage, a good amount of memory space for storing high-quality photos, videos, music, and apps. This can also be expanded with the Micro SD slot which supports up to 32GB of additional storage.
What’s New with LG G Stylo
The LG G Stylo is definitely a budget-wise stylus phablet. As aside from the full and wide 5.7-inch IPS LCD display, it’s also equipped with the laser-guided auto-focus feature that the brand’s high-end smartphone units have. It also allowed a great amount of storage for multimedia storage plus, the 2GB of RAM for a smooth multitasking.
However, the highlight of this unit’s specs is its stylus pen. Basically, the pen measures about 4 inches and has a cute-looking soft, rubber tip. It is thin enough to hold and allows a good grip for comfortable writing. It can be used to mark, type, doodle, draw, write, cut, copy and paste – whatever you wish to do. It is also efficient for swiping, dragging, and trapping onto the screen.
Of course, the stylus pen also comes with the exclusive LG feature – QuickMemo. This allows users to jot down and annotate notes directly on the screen.

The Magic Slot is a design innovation by LG in its first attempt to make modular phones.
The Magic Slot
If there’s anything more interesting with LG G5, it’s the Magic Slot. The magic slot contains the battery, sim card and the microSD card slots giving easier access to the user’s most important convertible accessories.
The Magic Slot is the removable bottom of the phone that allows the users to replace the battery with one easy click of the button at the lower right-hand side of the phone. It’s also the same slot used for switching between G5’s modular accessories.
Despite the fact that most manufacturers are now moving towards non-removable back covers and batteries, LG G5 matched it with a full blast metallic casing but of removable battery. Quite the genius.
Physical Changes
If you are an avid LG user, the LG G5 is probably going to feel strange for you. Gone are the volume keys at the back that your finger worked so hard to get used to, because the volume buttons are now on the left-hand side, conforming to the physical design of other smartphones.
LG did a good job at making the home screen really clean and minimalistic, however, they’d gone extremely far to eliminate the app drawer that really confuses LG and even long-time Android users.
With the app drawer gone, the phone’s interface looks more like that of an iPhone more than an Android. People think that LG is probably risking its features to make it appeal to iPhone users who are tempted to switch to or try Android for economical reasons.
Battery Life And Charging
It’s good that LG G5 now has a USB Type C port for charging that conforms to the standard of other Android and smart devices worldwide. This is good news compared to other LG flagship devices which only works with LG provisioned chargers.
Also, the easy battery switch makes it easier for users to seamlessly use their phones when traveling, gaming or surfing minus the usual hassle of charging while being on their phones. An extra battery is added upon purchase.
Since LG G5 has Quick charge 3.0 Support, users can now have at least 80% battery in just 30 minutes of charging which is equally competitive to other new smartphone models.
Metal Case
The metal casing is the first of all the LG family’s G Series to ultimately resolve overheating issues from the preceding model.
LG G5’s metallic cover isn’t technically metal on your fingertips. It has gone through multistage processes that keep your hands from stinking rust.
In addition, the metal casing ironically has a smoother finish compared to LG G4 which is somehow rough to the hands. Despite being all-metal, LG G5 is lightweight and is ergonomically made for mobile user experience.
Modular Mechanism
The LG G5 features a modular mechanism that allows other accessories (LG calls them *Friends), to improve the phone’s features like its camera, audio, and battery. Although LG G5 isn’t the only modular phone available in the market, it offers a wide array of modular accessories that’s exciting to use for LG fans.
The LG G5 has 14 different Friends but not all of them are available to the US, EU, and other countries. If you are interested with an LG G5 Friend (accessory), be sure to check its availability in your country first.
LG G5 Friends
+ Replaceable Battery
The replaceable battery is considered one critical advantage of the LG G5 compared to other flagship devices from brands like Samsung, iPhone, Xiaomi, etc. LG G5 comes with a spare battery upon purchase.
+ LG G5 Quick Cover
The Quick Cover flip case is the answer to G5’s scratch-prone screen and it allows users to pass users’ touches to the screen even when it is closed. However, this G5 Friend doesn’t look so friendly to most customers, because it isn’t magnetic and won’t stay closed which unfortunately defeats the purpose. .
+ LG Cam Plus
LG G5’s camera is already awesome but LG can’t help but add another Friend to make it even better. LG Cam Plus is created to help users with the camera controls like video, shutter, and zoom controls, but that’s not the best part about it. This Friend can add more battery life by replenishing the power consumption of your cam app.
Although the LG Cam Plus is made for the said purposes, it is a total epic fail for most customers. Starting at $70, the LG Cam Plus, somehow causes the camera to “stop responding” or lag when zooming and it spins freely either way so it doesn’t give any reassurance that you have reached the max zoom in or out capability.
Again, beware of buying LG Cam Plus online because it’s not universally compatible with all LG G5 phones and it might depend also on your carrier.
+LG Hi-Fi Plus (DAC)
If you are the audiophile-type then this is a thing you wouldn’t want to miss. This Friend offers crisp and clear music that every audiophile would want to hear. It also comes along with a USB Type C cable that you can easily connect to a computer and it works just as fabulous. However, this isn’t available in the US and isn’t compatible with the US LG G5 models either, so don’t bother getting one from Europe or wherever online.
+LG Tone Platinum Headphones
This new addition to the LG Tone line is a G5 Friend, and this Bluetooth headphone is great for everyone, except of course to audiophiles. The design is ergonomic and comfortable to wear on the neck.
It’s quite fashionable and it’s undoubtedly a level up compared to its predecessors.
+LG 360 Cam
So, aside from the LG Cam Plus, LG G5 got its camera game up a notch with yet another Friend, the LG 360 Cam. It doesn’t have an internal memory but you can stick in an SDXC card of up to 1TB.
This can only be controlled using a smartphone through Bluetooth connection, however, the process of connecting to the cell phone app can be confusing at times. On a lighter note, this model is not as expensive as with other 360 cameras available in the market but it almost has the same video and picture quality.
+LG 360 VR Headset
As the name suggests, the 360 VR is a Virtual Reality headset and it works only with LG G5, a not so clever marketing strategy. Nonetheless, it’s lightweight compared to that of Samsung’s.
You can connect it to LG G5 phone via USB type C cable and it only works after downloading all the necessary apps like Friends Manager, 360 VR Manager, and vrChannel. This VR attempt didn’t get LG the praises it was looking for but it’s way more expensive than other VRs.
Unfortunately, the experience doesn’t justify the price of the LG 360 VR headset.

To access the rear panel, you may use the micro-USB opening and open it from there.
In addition, it has the usual placement of the camera and the flash at the back while the headphone jack, the micro-USB charging port at the bottom, and the power button and the volume rocker at the sides. However, for this one smartphone, LG has incorporated the new in-cell navigation buttons instead of the traditional touchscreen capacitive buttons.
Camera
Despite being a budget phone, the unit is smoothly sporting a good 5MP rear and the 0.3MP selfie camera. It also has great features such as the soft light, gesture shot, burst shot, and even the live shot. More so, it is also capable of shooting 1920 by 1080-pixel videos. All of which are ideal for capturing your Instagram-worthy photos!

Moreover, it is also equipped with standard connectivity protocols such as Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS with GLONASS, and even radio.
Power and Battery
While the trend of removable batteries has played low these days, it seems LG decides to retain it on Leon. It is equipped with a 1900 mAh battery capacity, which is a good combination with its 1GB RAM. It is also incorporated with a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, thus, allowing the unit to process tasks in a quick manner.
Software and Memory
Running on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, the new Leon has retained the exclusive apps from LG. This includes the note-taking app, very well known as the QuickMemo+, which enables users to take down quick notes and doodles.
There’s also nothing to worry about the phone memory as it is equipped with an 8GB internal storage, which could be expanded with a microSD card up to 32GB of storage.

For iOS phone, simply navigate your phone’s settings and look for Cellular Data Network. If it’s present, then your phone may be unlocked given that this section allows users to manually change their phone’s carrier.
For Android phone, proceed to your phone’s settings and look for the Network Operator option. Scan for networks and select one to try if it works. If it does, your phone may be unlocked.
In general, people try to swap out their SIM cards with a different carrier’s SIM and tries to make a call if it works.
Another alternative way to check your phone’s lock status is through your IMEI number and enter this on an IMEI checker website.
“Having my phone unlocked is the sweetest way to communicate when I travel.” – said every traveler out there. Truth be told, when traveling out of the country, it can be very frustrating to commit to expensive roaming charges. Unlike carrier phones, unlocked phones allow you to swap out your SIM to any local SIM card wherever you are. Furthermore, you get to spend your money for other expenses. However, how would you know if your phone’s unlocked?
Without further ado, here are some amazing ways to figure out if your phone’s unlocked!
How to Figure Out if iOS Phone is Unlocked
In order to check if your iOS phone is unlocked, you may proceed to the cellular setting. While it may not exactly tell you that your phone’s unlocked, it’s a decent indicator that you may not swap out your SIM with a different one. Just make sure to follow these steps:
Go to Settings and look for Cellular.
Select Cellular and scroll to Cellular Data Network.
If the Cellular Data Network option is present, this may indicate that the phone is unlocked. Otherwise, it’s a carrier phone. This is due to the fact that this option allows the user to change carriers.
How to Figure Out if Android Phone is Unlocked
For Android phones, the indication that your phone may be an unlocked phone may seem similar with iOS phones. However, the procedure may depend on the version of the operating system and of course, the manufacturer. For the sole reason that interfaces may vary according to the brand’s customization.
Moving forward, here’s how you can figure out if your Android phone’s unlocked:
Go to Settings and proceed to Network/Mobile Network/Cellular Network (or however your phone refers to Network setting as this may differ with the brand).
Look for Network Operator and Search/Scan for networks.
Wait until it shows you the results.
Once the results show, try connecting on one of the networks and wait if your phone can pick up a signal.
If there is, try making a call.
So, here’s the thing: if your phone showed a list of different networks, it could be that your phone is unlocked. However, there are also cases that your carrier may have had arrangements with other carriers, hence, the connection.
If you are not satisfied with the result, you may still proceed with the general method of figuring out if your phone’s unlocked.
General Method of Figuring Out if Phone is Unlocked?
If you are having trouble figuring out whether your phone’s unlocked or not, you can always refer to this general method of doing so. Maybe then, you will be able to say: “Dude, my phone’s unlocked. ‘Gotta say goodbye to expensive roaming charges!”
First, look or borrow a different carrier’s SIM card. Then, simply swap out your existing SIM with it and then check your phone if it finds the network. This may appear in the form of signal bars or a prompt telling you that a new network has been inserted on your phone. Afterwards, try making a call. If it registers, then your phone’s unlocked. Otherwise, it’s not.
Alternative Way to Figure Out if Phone is Unlocked (via IMEI)
Well, if you are willing to go technical this time, you can move forward with International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) checking. You can get your IMEI information from your phone and enter this on an IMEI checker website to know the lock status of your phone. In order to get your IMEI information, dial *#060#. If this works on your phone, a 15-digit number will appear. Otherwise, you may navigate through your phone Settings and look for About Phone/Device. You may find an IMEI section there, and under it is the 15-digit number.
Here’s a sample video in getting your phone’s IMEI information (for Samsung Galaxy S4):
You may now enter the number in the checker and it will show you the lock status of your phone. However, the thing about this method is that there are websites that won’t be really accurate with the results. Thus, be sure to look for one that can do so.
Key Takeaway
Figuring out if your phone is unlocked can be easy – however way you choose to perform the checking. If a particular method wouldn’t work for you, you can always opt for an alternative.
Now, if you find out that yours is a locked phone, you can always choose to unlock it. ZTE has returned in the smartphone scene with a hybrid unit that will surely hit the market in no time. This is rooting from the best-sellers of the said brand, the Blade and Axon series. Being a predecessor of these two popular units, the new ZTE Blade Z Max is another handset that will definitely become a crowd favorite. More so, that this is initially available to T-Mobile and MetroPCS fans first.
Design and Display
Fortunately, ZTE has retained the 6-inch screen size in the new Blade Z Max. However, there’s a notable difference with the overall design of the unit.
The rear is covered with a black rubber material that allows a good grip for users and prevents it from slipping off. This is due to the fact that the unit is also thin, at .33 inches – which makes it both easy to hold and slip off your grip. This is why ZTE used a practical material such as rubber.
Additionally, the rear also includes a dual-lens camera located on the top left and the fingerprint sensor at the center. This prevents your fingertip from smudging your camera lens when pressing the fingerprint sensor.
Going to the sides, the unit retains the SIM card slot on the left and the power button and volume rocker on the right side. A proven and tested positioning of side buttons today.
Going further, the front display flaunts a 1920 by 1080 pixel resolution along with its 6 inch 2.5D scratch-resistant Dragontrail glass screen. It’s capable of providing the accurate colors for viewing and is fairly bright for outdoor use. Definitely a great deal for a unit like the Blade Z Max.
For the front setup, it also includes the touch screen capacitive navigation buttons on the lower half and the speaker grill in an oval cutout on the upper half of the screen. Additionally, the headphone jack at the bottom part along with the USB Type-C charging port.
Camera
For this unit, ZTE has incorporated the new camera technology, enter: dual lens camera. While some may have difficulty in making this possible with their handsets, ZTE seemed to find a way to make this a reality for its new units. It’s amazingly capable of offering the best portrait mode, mono-color, optical zoom, bokeh, and a lot more through its 16MP and 2MP combo of rear camera lenses. You will never look at a phone camera the same way again.
Moreover, the ZTE Blade Z Max is also equipped with an 8MP front-facing camera – which is impressively capable of capturing picture-perfect selfies that users can flaunt in their social media accounts.
Connectivity and Performance
Having been made available first in MetroPCS by ZTE, the Blade Z Max is capable of a blazing fast LTE connection. Primarily because it supports LTE bands 2/4/5/12/66 which enables it to pick up signals and download fairly in congested areas.
Furthermore, it also supports standard connectivity protocols such as Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 4.2, and A-GPS enabling users to share and connect to the internet easily.
Power and Battery
Thankfully, the Blade Z Max is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor clocked at 1.4GHz. It is partnered with 2GB of RAM, enabling a smoother processing of tasks and fast launching of particular apps – thus, avoiding lags.
This kind of specs is definitely good news for gamers given that the phone is magnificently capable of running high-end games. No more unexpected crashing to worry about!
Software and Memory
Similar to most 2017 smartphones, the Blade Z Max is running on Android 7.1 Nougat with minor visual changes that make it a good choice for a midrange phone. It also includes a few bloatwares such as Facebook and the usual MetroPCS apps that are comparatively decent and tolerable. As it doesn’t eat up the 32GB of internal storage that it has unlike other carrier smartphones in the market. Plus, you always have a Micro SD slot to lean on whenever you need additional space for your apps and multimedia files.
What’s New with ZTE Blade Z Max
Of course, what should ZTE fans expect from their newest addition to their best-selling lineup? Four features: camera, memory, battery, and a good screen. Favorably, the camera system has leveled up on this unit. For a midrange phone, it’s a good thing that ZTE chose to incorporate a dual-lens camera system. This made the phone ideal for the most part, a phone working like a professional camera is one of the primary things people look forward in phones today.
In addition, the 32GB memory capacity allows you to save more photos, music, videos, and much more. If ever you should you need more storage, there’s always a Micro SD slot capable up to 128GB. Fun isn’t it?
Furthermore, the Blade Z Max is capable of an awesome battery capacity of 4080mAh. It’s seriously huge for its price. It seemed you will never need to plug your phone to charge for two days. Plus, its charging port is Type-C, making charging faster than ever.
With all these great features, the Blade Z Max ends the unit with a 6-inch screen capable of HD and is covered with Dragontrail 2.5D glass display panel. A perfect phone for viewing photos, scrolling through social media feeds, and of course, watching your favorite shows!

Along with this is its continuous experimentation on several other fields such as servers, storage solutions, smart TVs, IT software, tablets, apps, and mobile phones – thus, pursuing its goal to becoming one of the leading technology companies in the world.
Founded in 1984, the Chinese multinational company started with a capital of 200,000 yuan and the company name “Legend.” It was said that before its rise and expansion in Hong Kong, the company indeed went through trial and errors before achieving success in the field of PC making.
Being a company that both designs and creates its products, notably personal computers, workstations, servers, tablets, smartphones, software, and smart TVs, Lenovo has made a name of its own and became the world’s largest PC vendor. More so, it was able to acquire significant brands such as that of IBM and Motorola Mobility.
Lenovo’s acquisition of IBM and its Intel-based server business in the year 2005 and 2014 respectively have moved the brand to another level in the technology industry. Not only did it acquire one of the most significant brands in the computer history, but also the technology that goes along with it. This then helped Lenovo move further into innovation and set the standard when it comes to high-technology personal computers and other products.
Not long after in 2014, Lenovo also acquired the legendary Motorola Mobility from Google. This acquisition did not simply mean the iconic brand becoming a part of the Lenovo company. It also allowed significant access on the innovative product portfolio of Motorola along with its talented team from around the world.
Truly, there’s a lot more to look forward to about Lenovo. Its continuous efforts on innovation and technology are making it big out there, especially when it comes to making smartphones.

Alcatel has moved their own standard when it comes to quality smartphones. With its aim to impress the market with its up-to-date technologies, this newly launched smartphone phablet is continuing the brand’s legacy when it comes to quality and affordable devices.

Flipping the phone, it has a surprising circular shaped fingerprint sensor with metal outline comes along with the LED flash and rear camera. Plus, of course, the Alcatel logo not far below.

Thus, enabling a smooth turn-around of several tasks.
Memory and Software
With great battery life and processor, what more can Alcatel offer on its A30 Fierce? The answer is a good 2GB of RAM along with a 32GB built-in storage and a Micro SD slot in the event that the user wishes to extend the unit’s storage capacity.

Kyocera has been known to produce waterproof smartphones; great waterproof smartphones at that. Today, it did not only produce one waterproof smartphone, but one that every user will find very different from its Hydro series. It has moved the bar with its new and improved features, living up to its name Kyocera Hydro Elite.
Design
The Kyocera Hydro Elite comes in a simple, (though a bit bulk) black-colored plastic over-all design measuring up to 4.82 by 2.38 by 0.43 inches and weighing up to 4.52 ounces. However, unlike its predecessors, the Elite is more minimalistic and modern. More so, the edges were much more premium and sleek this time. The rear part also comes off as rubberized, thus, it is easier to hold the device.
The placement up front is pretty common, apart from the non-inclusion of the in-ear speaker. The selfie-camera is located beside the sensor for notifications at the upper half, and then the brand’s logo at the bottom. Going to the sides, the power button along with the 3.5mm audio jack is placed at the top, the volume rocker at the left, and the Micro USB port on the right. This makes it easier for the user to reach the necessary buttons whenever needed.
Similar to common placements, the rear camera is located at the back of the unit. It also has the speaker and the LED flash at the sides, creating a minimal yet not too distracting setup at the rear’s polished top half. However, the bottom half of the unit was differently designed given that it has a matte, dimpled texture that helps prevent the handset from slipping from the user’s grip. It makes sense as the bottom half is removable for the user to access the battery and the Micro SD and SIM card slots.
Display
What makes the Kyocera Hydro Elite much better than its predecessors is that it is now designed with the standard display panel for mid-range phones, a good impact-resistant 4.3-inch LCD display with 1280 by 720-pixel resolution. The said specs allow a clear viewing over the display of the phone, both images and text, and a bright viewing for outdoor use.
More so, the brand shifts from the usual capacitive home, back, and recent app buttons to the standard mid-range on-screen buttons display.
Camera
Going further with its optimized specs, the handset flaunts an 8MP rear camera equipped with LED flash and impressive features such as autofocus, digital zoom, and extra modes and effects for better shots. The selfie camera, on the other hand, has toned-down the camera effects and can only take photos in three particular sizes.
Of course, along with the camera feature, the handset is also capable of shooting good videos with a quality mounting up to 1080 pixels for the rear camera and 720 pixels for the selfie camera, and are equipped with particular video options such as audio muting, white balance, brightness, exposure, color effects and others. However, unlike the selfie camera, the rear camera’s capability is much more advanced especially that it allows digital zoom, auto and touch focus, time lapse, contrast meter, flash, and a number of video qualities that the users can choose from.
Connectivity and Network Performance
What maybe the best thing about the new Kyocera unit is that it is capable of 4G/LTE signal reception. It even performed a good 22Mbps download and 8Mbps upload on a speed test conducted by Phone Arena.
More so, it also supports a handful of great connectivity protocols such as Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, dual-band capable Wi-Fi 802.11, and NFC.
Power and Battery
Giving life to the handset is a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 Plus processor along with a 1.5GB of RAM. Now, the great thing about this is that it operates beyond the figures, allowing a number of apps to run – hence, avoiding lags upon usage.
With regards to the battery, Kyocera has equipped the Elite with a 2000mAh capacity battery to support a good 13 hours of talk time and/or almost 9 days of standby time.
Software and Memory
The Kyocera Hydro Elite operates on the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and unlike LG, Samsung, and other smartphone brands, it is not topped with any custom UI layer made by the brand. Regardless, it is equipped with a starter and standard mode – wherein the starter mode allows first-time Android users to use the unit in an even more user-friendly interface given that it has larger icons and simpler access to menus and settings.
In order to meet the global standard of mid-range smartphones, the brand has increased the storage size to a built-in 16GB internal memory plus a Micro SD slot capable of expanding up to 32GB.
What’s New with Kyocera Hydro ELITE (C6740 & C6740N)
Truly, Kyocera has moved the bar of their waterproof smartphones’ specs to another level. One instance of which is the increase on the camera specs from 5MP to a good 8MP camera that is capable of vibrant snapshots and quality videos. Along with this is the 4G LTE capability of the handset that allows faster streaming on cellular data.
Now, with regards to improved technology, the unit flaunts a Smart Sonic Receiver technology that enables the unit to transmit audio through the hard tissue inside the ear from the ceramic transducer incorporated within the device. This is also the reason why the handset did not display an in-ear speaker up front. Just put the phone near your ear and you can easily hear from the device given that this technology actually converts the phone’s display panel to a speaker.
As expected, the Kyocera unit is also equipped with an improved waterproof protection from blowing rain and water immersion that could increase up to 1 meter within 30 minutes. However, the brand also notes that this is limited to fresh water and as much as possible, avoid dipping the phone in the pool or ocean water.
Lastly, what Kyocera Hydro Elite offers its users when it comes to connectivity is its NFC capability which allows touch-and-send sharing of contacts, videos, pictures, and others. This phone also features wireless charging through its Qi-enabled wireless charging pad.
